SAN ANGELO -- Texas Cooperative Extension will hold a "Rainwater Capture Meeting" at 7 p.m., June 29 in the San Angelo Convention Center.

John Begnaud, Extension horticulturist in Tom Green County and a meeting coordinator, said interest in rainwater capture is increasing, especially as a way to supplement existing water sources for landscape irrigation.

"The topic can apply to city dwellers as well as country folk," said Begnaud. "One inch of rain collected over a 1,000-square-foot roof yields 600 gallons of fresh water. That's a substantial amount in dry West Texas where every drop counts."

Billy Kniffen, Extension agriculture agent in Menard County and a rainwater capture expert, will discuss procedures and equipment, as well as storage and application, for irrigation and in-home use. He uses a rainwater-capture system at his own home.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

For more information and copies of resource material on rainwater capture, contact Toni Fox, San Angelo Water Conservation Coordinator, at (325) 657-4506 or Begnaud at (325) 659-6528.
